My experiences studying abroad and volunteering with students inspired me to want to work in international education. Guiding international students through the admissions cycle — from initial queries to application to enrollment — is a very fulfilling part of my job. It’s always exciting when I finally get to meet the students I’ve helped throughout the process.

I enjoyed my time at the College, and made so many friends for life. Studying there prepared me for my degree at the University, and I will never forget my time in Liverpool.

With my degree from the University of Liverpool, I now work at a national recruiting company, specialising in the hotel and hospitality sector.

I’ve been here in Glasgow for 2 years now, and feel quite confident speaking English. But I’ll never forget when I came to Glasgow for the first time; I was in a totally English-speaking environment.

Although it was a difficult period of adaptation, now I realise that this whole situation turned out to be a huge advantage.

GIC also helped me to make friends. I met a few Americans I’m now friends with, and one of them is also studying the same course as me. We usually study together, or go out and play pool, or explore Glasgow and Scotland.

The style of teaching here is definitely different from that in my home country. Here, the lecturers take a more holistic approach. They guide you, rather than spoon feed you the answers. I think this helps students to do research, and it induces a healthy learning environment.

The thing that surprised me most about the UK was how well connected the places are here! Even the rural areas in Scotland are accessible by either train and/or bus. It makes it easier for me to find new places, which I can then show to other people.

I have friends from Scotland, Ireland, England, America, India and China. We go out for dinner, drinks, to the cinema, and play sport together. We also try to explore Glasgow and the surrounding area as much as possible. It’s so simple to travel here, even if you don’t have a car.

It’s been easy to adapt to the local culture. People in Glasgow are some of the nicest you will meet.

I decided to study at Glasgow International College because it gave me a route to a top university, after I didn’t qualify initially for entry to a degree.

I wanted to study Entrepreneurship, and the University of Glasgow is one of the few top universities in the world that offers Entrepreneurship and International Business as a degree.

My time at the College and the University of Glasgow was interesting, and I volunteered to be a student rep at both. This enabled me learn to manage my time more effectively, and become more confident.

I was always attracted to the UK, and would have loved to do my undergraduate degree here. When the opportunity to study an MSc here came up, I jumped at the chance.

My undergraduate degree was in Electrical Engineering, and I wanted to build on that and bolster my industry experience with further academic knowledge.

I learned a lot at GIC, and it has proven to be a useful experience. I am now working as a Systems Engineer on an important urban transport project.

I had an amazing time, both at Liverpool International College and the University of Liverpool. I was part of a multicultural society, filled with friendly and well-trained staff, plus a wonderful student services team who were always available to assist me. I received help in many different areas, ranging from academic assistance to work and interview related guidance. I was well prepared by both the College and the University to go out and face the world.

I would definitely recommend the College. Everyone here is easy-going, and they really listen to you. The teachers are great, and I can always go to a tutor with any questions; they’re very easy to talk to.

I provide marketing and recruitment support for West African agents, parents and students. Helping students through their visa and career counselling is what I love to do. I support students, agents and parents with the visa application process, ensuring that they have a clear understanding of the visa guidelines and requirements, and the best changes for a successful outcome. I also train agents in compliance and in assessing student eligibility to study at our UK and US locations, thus ensuring a better process and higher student satisfaction.

As the Student Recruitment Coordinator, my role is to help students, parents and agents. I answer questions about our courses, help people organise their documents, and just offer support in general. I enjoy speaking with students and their parents and helping them make an informed decision. Building relationships and making students and family members feel comfortable and confident about coming onto any of our courses are some of the things I enjoy most in my role.

I work closely with International Students to ensure that all their needs are met. I handle things for them, so they can enjoy their time as students and get a fantastic education. I love being a part of that.

When students come to me, I help them to find a the best possible pathway to the degree that’s right for them. I help them through the entire process, from processing applications to enrolment. I love changing people’s lives for the better.

As a member of the Admissions team, I help international students secure a place on one of our courses. I help international students achieve their educational goals at Northeastern University. One of the best parts of my job is interacting with international students, seeing them happy and enjoying their experience in their degrees.

One of the biggest pleasures of my work is seeing how happy students are when they reach a milestone in their educational journey – whether it’s being accepted onto a course, or progressing to university. As Regional Director at a Kaplan country office, I support students from the start of their journey in their home country, to the time they arrive at one of our study locations to start their course.

Based at our Head Office in London, Andrew leads Kaplan International Pathways, the higher education division of Kaplan International.

Andrew has more than 30 years’ experience in international education, as a teacher, academic leader, college head and managing director.

Before joining Kaplan, Andrew served as Chairman of the ISIS Group and was the Chief Executive Officer of Study Group for 9 years, overseeing its rapid expansion. Prior to that, he fulfilled a number of senior management roles at Education First (EF).

Clare heads up a global recruitment team who provide advice on higher education opportunities for students and parents in their home countries, and support Kaplan’s trusted partner agents.

She has worked in the international education industry since 2008. Previously, she worked in the international exchanges and educational travel industries in the USA. She has lived in 4 countries and worked in over 40.

After 5 years of successfully leading Kaplan Pathways’ global online and offline marketing initiatives on behalf of our university partners, Ricard now directs Kaplan’s higher education development strategy.

Ricard has almost 20 years of experience leading marketing for international education and travel organisations.

He studied Philosophy and Social Anthropology at the University of Kent (UK), and Philosophy at graduate level at the University of Edinburgh and King’s College London (UK).

I specialise in counselling students about our online degrees, as well as Foundation, A level and GCSE courses at our MPW partner colleges.

We work hard to ensure that every student finds the right path for them, and our regional expertise really helps us tailor our advice to each student’s needs.

Based in San Diego, Mary Jane Miller (“MJ”) has returned to Kaplan to lead growth strategy and development for Kaplan International in North America.

MJ has over 13 years’ experience in international education in operations, development and legal roles. Most recently, MJ worked in North America for INTO University Partnerships, in both University partner development and operating roles during a period of impressive growth and diversification for the organisation.

Prior to her time at INTO, MJ worked in international education at Meritas International Family of Schools and at Kaplan, in a variety of roles in the US, UK and Asia-Pacific businesses.

Linda is responsible for all pathway colleges in the UK and for projects in the Middle East.

She has been working in international education since 1992 across a wide range of markets on several continents.

Linda has over 10 years’ experience working for UK universities, plus expertise in partnership work with universities in a number of countries.

In the Student Services team, we work hard to enhance your experience by providing support and guidance outside of the classroom. From helping you with any issues you may have, to arranging exciting trips and events for you to enjoy, we do our best to ensure you have the best possible time with us in the UK.

As a Subject Leader, I help to monitor students’ progress by exams and assessments, and to give them any help and advice they need. For example, students have homework and receive feedback in class every week, and mid-term mock exams allow us to track how well they are developing.

We therefore have a solid system of identifying if you need extra help in particular areas, and we do our best to ensure you are fully prepared for your university degree.

The most rewarding thing about working here is the hugely diverse environment. Every day, I have the chance to interact with people of many cultures worldwide – not just among the students, but the College staff too. It’s really satisfying to share different ideas, as I help students achieve a shared goal of progressing to university.

Many of the students that I helped in the past have now graduated from university and are pursuing successful careers. It’s so rewarding to see how my advice has changed their lives for the better, and this is my favourite part of working here!
